Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Whatever you can be comfortable in! Shoes are not worn in the studio, so just make sure you take those off when you come in the door and store them in the cubbies.

What should I bring?

We prefer each student to bring their own yoga props: Mat, 2 blocks, strap, blanket, and bolster. Not all those props are needed in every class, but those are pretty standard. If you do not have your own props, we have a limited selection for borrowing. We just ask that you follow the appropriate cleaning procedures after using. We also have props available for sale!

You can also bring water to stay hydrated!

I’m not flexible, can I still do yoga?

Not being flexible is a good reason TO come to yoga! Yoga will help you increase flexibility, strength, balance, and agility. All important qualities that we need to live a healthy life. Our teachers will offer pose variations for where your body is at on a particular day!

What if I cannot make it a class I have signed up for?

If you cannot attend a class that you have registered for, visit the CLASS SCHEDULE , click on My Schedule, and click “Cancel” on the class you wish to cancel from. From within the app, simply click on “My Schedule” on the bottom. You must cancel 3 hours prior to the class start time to allow another student to take that available class spot. If you do not cancel within the 3 hour window, or you do not show up, you will lose your class credit. If you have a membership, your account will be charged $10.

I have an injury, can I still come to class?

If you have spoken to your doctor and feel comfortable practicing, then yes! Please be sure to get to class a couple of minutes early so you can inform the teacher. It’s good to remember that yoga is a personal practice, and only you can feel what is going on in your body. So, be sure to modify and adapt any pose according to your needs. As you’re recovering from an injury or surgery, remember that we offer Chair (Accessible) Yoga classes, which are great to ease back into your practice gently!

How often should I practice?

At South River Yoga, we believe in the yoga principle of Abhyasa. Abhyasa is the Sanskrit word that means consistency of practice. To see change and get the most benefits, you need consistent practice. We recommend trying to practice 2-3 times per week.
